Concussion Policy

While we recognise that concussions cannot be fully prevented, education and training as well as prompt and appropriate management can better protect the health and well-being of our athletes, while also potentially reducing the amount of training / competition missed due to concussion. As such, The Basketball Experience has partnered with Complete Concussions, a leading concussion care and research organization, and Saskatoon Kids Physio to develop and implement an evidence-based concussion policy.

All athletes 10 years of age or older are highly encouraged to complete a comprehensive multi modal in clinic pre-season baseline test through Saskatoon Kids Physio prior to participation in any training or competition. If unable to complete a in clinic Baseline, there is one available on the Concussion Tracker app.  It is automatically part of their profile that it has been done and coaches can see it is complete and up to date.

Baseline tests help to have a better understanding of an athlete’s healthy state and what type of results they should achieve when fully recovered.  Having access to these test scores after a concussion injury can provide healthcare practitioners with a set of personalized, objective data that could be used to make more informed and safer return to play decisions for an injured athlete. One Baseline test is good for all sports.
